Wearing Slippers to Work

Today I went to Ala Moana Apple store to fix my bluetooth keyboard.  The key "B", "N", and space didn't work at all.  While waiting to speak with Mac Genius, I noticed that Apple employees are allowed to wear slippers at work.  This kind of casual outfit is only for Hawaii's stores?

My Marathon Finisher Collection

There is no 2008 Finisher T-Shirt for me :( I didn't make it to the race on that year. Also note that I didn't run 2001 Marathon, but because I signed up on early bird special, they gave me free the previous year Finisher T-Shirt :D

2001: No effort to own this one, just need to make up your mind to run the 2002 Marathon and go sign up on the Early Bird special at Nike Town.

2002:  This one I definitely earn it.  This year was the 30th annual Marathon.

2003

2004: This year was my best year.  First time to finish way under 5 hours.

2005

2006:  I love blue

2007

2009: I love this year cloth.  It's Dri-Fit CoolMax and its color is nice.

2009 Best Movie of the Year

Although I haven't watched many movies in the theater this year, but I will just say that Avatar in 3D is the best movie of the year.  It's also in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.

1979 Honolulu Marathon

The thing that strucked me when I saw this B/W photo at the 2009 Honolulu Marathon Expo was the 1979 Volunteer T-Shirt. It was the year I was born.
I did google on "1979 Honolulu Marathon" and found some trace of this woman in the photo:

Patti Lyons, a 26-year-old Boston resident, successfully defended her women's title. Her time of 2:40:06 was more than three minutes better than the course record she set last year and less than two minutes short of her personal best, a 2:38:22 in Boston earlier this year.
The race got under way in front of Aloha Tower in the early morning darkness. The wheel-chair participants rolled away at 5:30 a.m. and then the blast of a cannon and fireworks sent the runners off at 6 a.m. The streets were still wet from a shower earlier in the morning, but conditions were otherwise good.

Recycle your Plastic Bag

Ok another food incident of the month.  My lunch had turned into a plastic bag recycle pool.  At first I thought this Spicy Beef noodle came with a big piece of jelly fish.  But after examined the jellyfish like creature closely, it turned out to be a slow-cooked plastic bag.  I think the bag had been cooked over night at least for 20 hours.  Confirm that by oil-osmosis process!

Buss Laugh Opening Party

My friend's poem "If Animals Could Talk" has been published to the new Hawaii' local book "Buss Laugh".  Tonight private party was held at the Printing Press factory on Harding Ave.  Only those whose work was published were invited, but of course I sneaked in for free food and entertainments.  If you are interested, the book is sold by most Hawaii's book stores such as Borders or B&N for $12.  Lots of funny poems from local students!

Itchy-Faced Boy Singing I'm Yours

“I am most impressed with the diminished chord this little genius plays at 1:07,” Jason says. “Not many people care to hit this chord when covering the song. It is often overlooked. But nary is the case here… And if anyone knows the kid, give him a high five for me!”

Marathon Finisher Certificate

Almost late to pick up the certificate, the pickup place closed at 5 pm, but I got there at 4:59:40. There was a big guy stood at the booth's door trying to close the gate. He was intimidating and threatening to shut the door exactly at 5 if we don't run. If I was late, it will take a few months for them to mail it. While limping to the pickup booth, I was fortunate enough to see Jackson and June when they were walking back to their car. They even walked back to the booth with me. To pick up a finsiher certificate, you will need to have your running number so the staff can search for your certificate. And I totally forgot my running number, all I knew was it starts with a 9. Hey but I remember that my number was 2 - number behind Jackson's. So I shouted and asked Jackson for his number. If Jackson and June never followed me back to the Pickup Booth, I would never have found my certificate in a 1000 stack of papers. Jackson and June, thanks for rescuing me and be kind to follow me back to the booth.

Thanks to Jackson again for always hooking me up with great lunches at Tripler. We have been aiming at this Staff Appreciation menu since the beginning of the week. It's hard to resist fantasizing lobster tail and prime rib on your plate. For $12.90 and 20 minutes waited in line, it was well worth for the delicacies hehe

Le Crepes amour and Paris

The first Nutella strawberry banana crepes I ever had was at the block party in Waikiki.  Now the same mobile vendor at the party has settled a permanent location on East Manoa next to the Boston Pizza.  The rich chocolaty hazel nut making Remeo et Julette a unique tale.  Well deserved for an Oscar.

Avatar the Last Airbender

Woww I'm so addicted to Avatar now.  Thanks to Jon for sharing one of the best animations I've ever watched..  I've spent at least 6 hours this weekend watching the anime.. almost finish part 1.  If you don't know what this animation is all about read on...

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. In the old days, there was peace between the four nations of the world. The Avatar -- Master of all four elements -- kept peace between the the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Only the Avatar has the ability to Bend (manipulate) all four elements, but one day, he Vanished. Then the Fire Nation attacked, forcing a war on the other three nations for one hundred years. Now, for the good of the world, it's up to 12-year-old Aang (Noah Ringer), the new Avatar, to return peace and balance by putting an end to the war and mastering all four elements. Aang must accept his destiny by stopping the Fire Nation's war and defeating the Fire Lord for good.

I just learned that now they are making the anime into a Hollywood movie: The Last Airbender (2010).  I was disappointed that Aang, the Avatar, is not an Asian.  Maybe because I watched the anime and I got  Aang so tied into an Asian boy.

DJ Hero First Attempt

The new DJ Hero for XBox 360 is definitely not for me.  There are so many actions dealing with your fingers.  The brain legion that coordinates my fingers got to be trained and stimulated more so I can deal with this type of game...  Maybe I should just go back to Guitar Hero for now.

Monster Surf is Coming to North Shore

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory, saying wave faces on Oahu's North Shore are expected to build to as much as 12 to 18 feet later this afternoon.  And this weekend into the middle of next week waves can be as big as 40-foot, which will be the biggest it's been in the past 15 years.
I might take a day off just to witness the monsters.
